Avoid saving your pixel art work as JPEG. always try to use PNG or at least GIF, as they will not introduce artifacts that might ruin the image's quality.

I strongly suggest you to avoid doing sprite edits. While they might seem nice at first, you will not improve your abilities at all doing these, plus they will limit all and any kind of artistic merit you could take from them.

the animation is a nice touch. But i'd work on improving on the contrast between colors.
